This season’s BFC New Generation

My cup runneth over. The BFC‘s announcement of this season’s New Generation, made the past seven days a calendrical smorgasbord of names to watch, including Craig Lawrence, Holly Fulton, Mary Katrantzou, Peter Pilotto… These oh-so slightly more established designers, hooked in and nurtured by the BFC, a sartorial cherry on the custard slice of newbies at Graduate Fashion Week, Royal College of Art’s post-grad ingenues that we’ve also seen this week.

Given our interest in how designers can harness film and digital media in their creative process, we’ll be watching to see what Craig Lawrence cooks up for us this season. Making his name as Gareth Pugh‘s knitwear designer, with his own delicate/fierce creations now adorning feministas such as Tilda Swinton, Skin and Lady Gaga, Craig created an energetic, irreverent short film, Carousel, with Jez Tozer and Dazed‘s Katie Shillingford  to showcase his SS10 collection, and a second followed at February 2010’s LFW. Check out his blog, Chateau de Gateau – so hip it’s tagged in Japanese (I think…).
