Switch on your fashion sense next week at this year’s LLGFF
Last night the 27th London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival launched in all its sparkling, fabulous shining glory with “I Am Divine” – a documentary charting the career of the larger-than-life subversive performer, disco diva, queer icon, collaborator and muse to the Pope of Trash John Waters:
This year’s LLGFF is another jam-packed hotbed of cinematic curiosities, a richly programmed collection of screenings themed under Hearts, Bodies and Minds. We’ve scoured the programme and have our eyes on I am Divine (of course!), Laurence Anyways, Bette Bourne: It Goes With The Shoes, Lives of Performers, Lesbiana: A Parallel Revolution, Fragments, Burn: Moving Images by Cabaret Artists, Gender Failure, Future My Love, Joy! and She Said Boom: The Story of Fifth Column. So much to see!! Not to mention the We Love David Bowie after party…
I’m delighted to be producing a one day training workshop for LGBT filmmakers supported by Creative Skillset called Tell Me Your Story, which takes place during the festival. Applications close today(!) so if you’re interested click here quickly for more information about the course and how to apply.
But Fashion Popcorn is most excited about hosting a free industry event next week in the festival’s delegate centre called Switch on Your Fashion Sense, where we’ll be talking to White Lodge’s Stephen Whelan about filmmaking for fashion:

Over the last 10 years fashion houses have taken digital media by storm. The Wild West of commercial filmmaking, fashion film productions have become the playground of innovators and visionaries.
Supporting emerging fashion film directors, Stephen Whelan (Exec Producer at White Lodge) will talk about his work creating high-end fashion content for premium brands, including his involvement with Fash/on Film, the British Fashion Council and River Island’s initiative to develop relationships between fashion designers and film makers. Expect insights into the landscape of the industry, what brands are looking for and how to cross the independent to commercial filmmaking divide, plus a few little tantalising tasters of fashion film too!
Switch on Your Fashion Sense is part of the festival’s Intimate Dialogue sessions taking place next week; a series of talks with top industry professionals to share their expertise with filmmakers in an informal festival setting.
Tickets: The event is for festival delegates only, but we have managed to secure some exclusive places for our Fashion Popcorn friends. These spots are a limited, so book soon via eventbrite, quoting FPOPcomp as the LLGFF 2013 Delegate URN and make sure you’re signed up to the Fashion Popcorn mailing list to qualify for entry.
See you there!
