FASHION LOVES FILM: ARAB FASHION ON FILM
Tue 9 Apr, 6.30pm, ICA. £10/£8. www.ica.org.uk
Birds Eye View Festival favourite Fashion Loves Film returns with a special edition exploring trends across the Arab region at a time of exciting new changes.
The programme features acclaimed Cannes Award-winning documentary DoBuy: The Fabric of Faith (dir. Emily Harris), which follows three Emirati women as they attempt to launch a forward-thinking fashion range in the heart of the Gulf. Alongside will be cutting-edge fashion shorts from art-film to stop-motion satire, including How Can I Resist U, a love letter to London’s Gulf fashion scene; and viral video Niqabitch, an electric response to France’s 2010 ban on wearing the burka.
Followed by an exclusive panel discussion with Kathryn Ferguson (filmmaker and Fashion Loves Film curator), Reina Lewis (Professor of Cultural Studies, University of the Arts London), Emily Harris (director, DoBuy) and Fatima Al Qadiri (artist and musician, How Can I Resist U).
Part of the Birds Eye View Film Festival 2013: Celebrating Arab Women Filmmakers, which takes place 3-10 April 2013 at BFI Southbank, Barbican, ICA & Hackney Picturehouse. For more info: www.birds-eye-view.co.uk
